Get Spring Down on Canvas
Consider my all-day oil painting retreat--paint a roseate spoonbill and a vibrant spring bloom in a relaxed, guided workshop.
A few days ago, Little Fawn and I were driving our golf cart down the red-dirt road to a pond near our farm so our Anatolian Shepherd could run. We go there a lot, looking for birds and wildlife.
Little Fawn was doing what she does every day. By the time we got on the cart, she was saying “pond” and then, at the mailbox, she began saying, “bird, bird, bird.”
This time, she was right!
Perched in a tree beside the pond was something we had never seen there before—a brilliant roseate spoonbill.

This was one of those moments that artists recognize immediately.
I knew right then: That is the bird we will paint in our spring workshop.
Announcing a Spring Painting Workshop
On March 21, I’m hosting an all-day painting workshop/retreat near our farm.
The workshop begins at 10 am with a coffee bar and scones. We will be done around 3 p.m.
The Venue
The workshop will be held at a beautiful, hidden hunting lodge located on Old River Road in Toombs County, Georgia. The interior of the two-story lodge is made of pecky cypress. We will be painting on a large, screened back porch with a tile floor. This lovely space overlooks a historic pond and a woods.
The lodge is located in the area where the Ohoopee River flows into the Altamaha River.
Last fall, I taught a workshop at a local historic church with no running water or bathroom facilities. That space is incredible, but being without amenities can be a challenge, especially for painting.
I promise, you are going to love this venue.
The Plan
We will spend the day creating two large paintings together:
• A striking roseate spoonbill
• A vibrant spring flower
You don’t need painting experience to join. I’ll guide everyone step by step, and I’ll have sketches ready for anyone who wants to jump right into painting.
Whether you’re a beginner or someone who paints regularly, you’ll leave with two bold paintings you’ll be proud to hang.
Space is limited, and these workshops tend to fill once word gets around.
The Cost
Tuition for the day is sliding scale, $75-200. You choose.
Canvases are included. You bring your paints, your brushes, your easel, and anything else you need to be comfortable and happy.
Lunch is included. When I say “lunch,” I mean a wholesome, healthy, simple, delicious lunch—served inside the lodge.
Traveling Distance
Because I live deep in the coastal plains of south Georgia, traveling distance is always a consideration.
To figure mileage from you to the workshop, you can enter Pearson’s Chapel Church into your maps program. The address is 2765 Old River Road, Reidsville, GA 30453. That is a public location very close to the lodge.
Overnight Accommodations
If you are coming from a distance and wish to arrive the evening before, I recommend a hotel in Vidalia, Georgia. I have a few other options, as well, so if you need more information, be in touch.
Consider coming with a friend.
